Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the breech and “Remington / MODEL 700” at the midsection. The left side of the barrel is marked “GR DOUGLAS / .458 WIN.” on the chamber and the right side of the chamber has a small encircled “XX”. The bottom of the bolt is matched and hand-marked “1681”.
Barrel Length: 24” GR Douglas Barrel
Sights / Optics: The barrel has no provision for iron sights. The receiver is installed with a pair of two-piece bases that secures a pair of Weaver rings holding a Bushnell Banner 2.5×20 scope. The scope has some marks into the finish, mainly on the focal lens housing. There is a light scratch at the rear and some marks form the rings. There is some light handing wear. The scope has a duplex reticle and the glass is clear. The scope rates in Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is checkered wood with a pistol grip, straight comb, and two wood capped recoil lugs. There are some scattered compressions and some draglines, the most noticeable are on the left above the trigger. There are a few little marks into the finish, the most noticeable is on the left side above the trigger. The checkering is mostly sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the solid brown rubber Remington buttpad which displays some light wear mainly at the heel and toe. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue & Bright
Finish Originality: Original to Parts. The barrel is aftermarket.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 93% of its metal finish. The barrel has some spots of dark discoloration from previous oxidation on the right side at the front of the forend. There are some scattered scuffs and little draglines on the barrel. There are a few hairline scratches on the barrel. The bolt handle has gone plum and the knob has a few little scrapes and spots of oxidation. There are some light marks on the receiver. There is light handling and standard operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are strong. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle is installed with the previously described scope and a military style leather sling. The sling has some light creases and a few scuffs, the stitching is intact and it rates in about Fine condition.
