Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT, U.S.A. / MODEL 983 MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 22 WIN. MAG. RIMFIRE ONLY” and with “JM” just in front of the receiver. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and the right with “SAFE / FIRE”.

Barrel Length: 22”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated, slightly-ramped base which is screwed to the front of the barrel. This is set under a steel sight hood. The rear sight is a “U”-notch semi-buckhorn blade mounted to a leaf dovetailed into the rear of the barrel with a step-ramped elevator. The top of the receiver is both grooved and drilled and tapped for the mounting of an optic and retains its cap screws for the mount holes.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is dark wood with a slightly raised comb and pistol grip. The wood is nicely checkered in the Fluer De Lis pattern. There is no notable wear or damage and it looks like this rifle has spent its life in the box. The LOP measures 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the solid brown rubber buttpad. The buttpad has the Marlin mounted cowboy logo and has little to no wear with a small spot of residue which should clean up, in about Excellent condition. The stock is in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish with only very light handling marks and rubs from the box. We would assume that this rifle has not been fired outside of the factory. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. This rifle is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The serial number matched box and lock are included. Both are in Good condition.

Our Assessment: This is a Marlin model 983 bolt-action, tubular-magazine fed rifle chambered in .22 Magnum. This is a light, handy rifle chambered in a powerful rimfire cartridge which should be great for small game or target shooting. .22 Magnum is a great and effective cartridge if you’d like to go out a little further than .22 Long Rifle. It shows only the lightest signs of handling and has a lifetime more use left in it. Please see our pictures and good luck.
