Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup is tight with no movement on all 6 chambers when the trigger is depressed. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a Colt Custom Shop leatherette presentation case with formed orange velvet insert and a Colt factory letter confirming the original configuration of the revolver, factory engraving, and that it was originally shipped with a presentation case. The gun was shipped to Valley Gun Distributors in Northridge, CA on October 25, 1979 as one of two such revolvers in the shipment. The yellow “stop-sign” hang-tag is still present on the trigger guard. The case has minor storage wear on the exterior, the inside edges of the lid and tray show more notable wear. The velvet insert has minor wear from the revolver. Overall, the case is in about Very Good-Fine condition. The letter is in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: The Diamondback is essentially a shorter framed Python both in the cylinder and grip frame, sharing similar aesthetic dynamics and is no less striking than its predecessor. This revolver retains about 99% of its finish in Excellent condition, sporting a bright, sharp bore, and comes with its original box. The ‘positive lock’ action provides SOLID cylinder lockup, with smooth double and single action trigger pulls. Those familiar with the Python line understand the accuracy these revolvers are capable of, this one should prove to be no different. That said, this revolver is factory class “D” engraved with gorgeous scroll work throughout the exposed metal surfaces. With its Custom Shop presentation case and Colt factory letter, this beautiful revolver is sure to catch the attention of Colt collectors. Please see our pictures and good luck!
