Our Assessment: Colt discontinued production of their iconic Single Action Army revolver to allocate more production capacity to the war effort during WWII. The revolver was seen as obsolescent with double action revolvers and autoloading pistols being the preferred designs for both target shooting and defense. It wasn’t until the advent of the silver screen and massive popularity of Western movies and television programs that single action revolvers really made a comeback in the commercial market. Along with re-introducing the standard Single Action Army, Colt also introduced several varieties of scaled-down rimfire revolvers. This is an interesting set of three such, a Frontier Scout Buntline from 1965, New Frontier Buntline from 1976, and a New Frontier Scout from 1982 with a more modern design which includes a cross-bolt safety located in the loading slot. The set is housed in a beautiful custom-made display case with plates marked with the revolver’s information as well as an NRA Colt knife. This set will make a wonderful addition to any collection and will display well with its custom case and knife. Please see our photos and good luck!
