Markings: The right side of the frame is marked “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / GENESEO IL USA / NM87100”. The top of the chamber is marked “38 SUPER”. The left side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MK IV/SERIES ’70 / GOVERNMENT MODEL / .38 SUPER AUTO CALIBER” followed by a Rampant Colt logo. The top of the slide, just in front of the left side of the rear sight is marked with a Kings Custom logo. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The bottom right shoulder of the chamber is marked “BAR STO”, it is obscured with the gun assembled. The left side barrel lug is marked “3 78”. The frame facing flat of the slide stop is marked “3”. The recoil spring plug is marked with the Kings Custom logo.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a Smith & Wesson style target sight with a square notch outlined leaf. The base is screwed to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth imitation ivory Bar S Grips in their Tru Ivory line of grips. There are no major defects to these beautiful grips, just light handling wear. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue, Polished Flats & Matte Rounds
Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its current metal finish. There is some light operational wear and handling wear from use. The grip safety has become plum. There is some light thinning at the bottom rear of the grip frame, and there is a tiny impact mark on the bottom left corner. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are strong. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a stainless Kings Custom 9-round magazine. The magazine exhibits some scattered little marks and some streaks on contact points. It rates in about Fine Plus condition.
Our Assessment: The Government Model served the United States military well through two World Wars and still sees some limited use in more modern configurations to this day. It has been no less popular on the civilian market, with dozens of companies making hundreds of variations on the original. This pistol is a Colt Series ’70 slide mated to a Springfield Armory frame and has had a very nice and attractive blued finish applied. This pistol has a Smith & Wesson style target rear sight, extended thumb safety, and a Bar-Sto .38 Super barrel. Due to the markings and quality of work, we believe this to be a piece done by Kings Custom. The pistol is in about Excellent condition with 98% of its metal finish, a great bore and strong mechanics. This is a nice gun for carry, competition or recreational shooting, wearing to the neighborhood BBQ and which should be a great shooter for the lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!
