Our Assessment: The Delta Elite was introduced in 1987 as a 10mm version of the 1911. The 1911 already had a following, of course, while the cartridge was popular as a result of Jeff Cooper’s involvement in its development and use in the Bren-10. It has remained popular with fans of the 1911 and the 10mm cartridge ever since. This example was made in 1989 and has since become something much more. While many know Pachmayr today for their line of after-market grips, they were also provided some of the finest custom gunsmithing available for decades. This Delta Elite has been to Pachmayr for their Competition II custom gunsmithing package including compensated barrel weight, full-length guide rod, match-grade Barsto barrel, re-contoured ejection port, adjustable target sights, extended magazine release, extended slide release, ambidextrous thumb-safety, grip frame and trigger guard checkering and an integral beveled magazine well. All of this is set off by a hard chrome finish and the customization to the slide was performed on a separate slide assembly, keeping the original Delta Elite slide in its original configuration. The result is a distinctive, unique Delta Elite that can have the slide assembly swapped out for the ultimate 10mm target pistol, perfect for a BBQ gun, defensive carry gun, and competition.
