The topstrap, under the rear sight base, is drilled and tapped for a scope mount (none included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece smooth wood with finger grooves which attaches to the butt with a Hogue-style bracket. Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder has a light, thin turn-line, the wide, checkered target hammer and wide, serrated target trigger show faint operational wear in otherwise strong case-color. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. Serrations and checkering are sharp. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The single action trigger is crisp and the double action is smooth. The cylinder locks up with very little play on each chamber. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a blue cardboard Smith & Wesson box with serial-matching label, wax paper, an assortment of factory paperwork including manual, and factory tools including cleaning rod, brush, mop and a sight adjustment tool. The box has scattered storage wear with light fraying at edges and corners and two small punctures on the lid, in about Good-Very Good condition. The cleaning accessories show no sign of use.

Our Assessment: The original Model 29 is an iconic revolver, perhaps best known for its role as the sidearm of Dirty Harry. By the 1990s, however, the trend was toward full-lug barrels as seen on the 586 and 686. This Model 29 Classic combines the N-Frame and .44 Magnum chambering of the original with a full-lug barrel as well as allowing for interchangeable front sights, mounting of an optic on the topstrap, as well as a round-butt frame. This would make a great target revolver, hunting primary or sidearm, but in its high condition and with its original box, it’s also sure to turn the heads of Smith collectors. Please see our photos and good luck!
