Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its current metal finish. The front face of the cylinder has burn rings and circumference of the cylinder has very small faint marks inline with the chambers. The cylinder also displays a complete turn line and some light scuffs. There are some light rubs from standard use. There are some small spots of stubborn fouling on the front sight and front sight pedestal. There is a light impact mark on the trigger guard. There is some extremely faint discoloration on the grip frame, most noticeable on the left side of the backstrap (obscured by the grip). There are a few light marks on the outer circumference of the muzzle. The screw heads are sharp but the grip screw is lightly tool marked with a deep slot. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. The cylinder lockup has very little play on all chambers. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. This example is the 629-6 Backpacker, with a 2.5? ported barrel and round-butt. As the name suggests, this would be a great carry gun when hiking where you may encounter predators. The .44 Magnum is a stout round and will be good protection against just about anything you’ll encounter in North America. The gun is in Fine condition with a few scattered light marks, a great bore, and strong mechanics. If you’re a Smith collector or just want a powerful revolver for your outdoor adventures, this is a great gun to pick up. Please see our photos and good luck!
