Model: American eagle Model 1900. We believe that the serial number, configuration of the toggle and markings are consistent with the 1900 American Eagle Luger.

Year of Manufacture: Early 1900s
Caliber: 7.65mm / .30 Luger 
Action Type: Toggle Action Semi-Auto, Removable Magazine 
Markings: The chamber is marked with the “American Eagle”, the toggle has the “DWM” script, and the front of the frame and the bottom of the barrel are marked “18648”, and the frame is also marked “ Germany”. The number “48” is visible on the bottom of the takedown lever. The sideplate, grip safety and the back of the toggle are marked “648”. There are no marks on the inside of the grip panels. 
Barrel Length: 4 ¾”
Sights / Optics: This pistol is mounted with a front blade in a dovetail slot and a rear notch in the latch. 
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered wood. The grips have a few compression marks on both sides but there are no visible cracks or losses. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition. 
Type of Finish: Blue 
Finish Originality: Original 
Bore Condition: The bore is dull and the rifling is barely present. There is erosion and some pitting in the bore. 
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 50% of its metal finish. Both sides of the frame and barrel show surface erosion and scattered mild pitting. There is finish wear on the sideplate and all the high edges. There are trace colors remaining on the trigger, takedown lever, and safety. There is thinning on the grip straps and they are turning gray brown. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Good condition. 
Mechanics: The action functions correctly as follows. The barrel is pushed back about ¼” before the toggle can be pulled to its rearmost position. Next, the magazine is released and the toggle is released to its full forward position and the trigger “fires”. We did not dis-assemble this pistol. We did not fire this pistol. 
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: An unmarked soft leather holster is provided. This holster shows use and scuffing but is in Good overall condition. One wooden base magazine is provided. This magazine is marked “8961 / h”. The magazine is in Good condition. 
Our Assessment: Our research shows that this pistol is a Model 1900 American Eagle. We used “Luger Variations” by H.E. Jones to try to establish the correct model for this Luger. Please see pages 62 & 62 of “Luger Variations”, by H.E. Jones for more information. This may be a valuable collector find!
