Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS .44 MAGNUM / FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.”, the left is marked “PACKER”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. NO. 4126953”, the right is marked “FREEDOM ARMS / PREMIER GRADE”. The bottom of the frame in front of the grip frame is marked “F 7899”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “7899” and “44 / M”. The left of the grip frame is hand-scribed “95264-55” and “F7899”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an angled, serrated blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch integral to the rear of the topstrap. The rear sight notch has been painted black.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth laminate rosewood panels. The grips show no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The cylinder has a very light turn-line. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The pin heads are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The cylinder lock-up is solid with no play on each chamber and the trigger is crisp. The action functions correctly. The hammer has ¼ and ½ cock safety positions. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a one-piece blue cardboard Freedom Arms box with serial matching label, blue foam interior, and an assortment of factory paperwork including manual and test target. The box has faint wear with a few scattered light marks, in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes premier quality firearms, and this single action Model 83 Premier Grade revolver is no exception. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. The lockup is quite literally solid, with no play whatsoever. The stainless finish with the unfluted cylinder is very appealing to the eye as well as functional in being impervious to the elements. The “Packer” model has a 3″ barrel with no ejector rod housing, but don’t let the short barrel fool you, this revolver is still capable of precision. Just look at the test target! The Packer models are not particularly common, though they can be special ordered. This example looks to have seen very little and responsible use. It comes with its original box and paperwork, equally ready for carrying in predator country or adding to a Freedom Arms collection.
