Markings: The right side of the slide is marked ”MARK V” and with a Grizzly logo. The left side of the slide is marked with the LAR logo and “GRIZZLY 50″. The right side of the frame is marked “L.A.R. MFG. INC., WEST JORDAN, UT. 84084 U.S.A. / V001030”. The top of the barrel is marked “L.A.R. MFG. INC. / 50AE”.
Barrel Length: 6 1/2″, 7″ to the end of the bushing compensator.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a single white dot fixed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a BoMar-style LPA sight with square notch and two white dots adjustable for windage and elevation dovetailed to the rear of the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black rubber scales. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no rips or tears. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The slide shows light operational wear in front of the dust cover. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The grip screws are sharp. The pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger breaks crisply. The slide-to-frame fit shows no play. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a red plastic Doskocil case with L.A.R. Manufacturing label, a single 6-round LAR magazine, a bushing wrench and a standard barrel bushing in addition to the installed bushing compensator. The case has scattered light wear, in about Very Good-plus condition. The magazine has light operational wear with intact feed lips and a strong spring, in about Fine condition.
Our Assessment: Essentially an over-sized 1911, the LAR Grizzly series pistols are large-framed single-action semi-automatic pistols chambered in powerful cartridges, such as this Mark V chambered for .50 Action Express. The prototype for the LAR Grizzly was actually made from two 1911 frames cut and welded together to accommodate the longer .45 Win. Mag. and with steel plates added to the flats of the slide to add mass and strengthen the slide structurally. Production LAR pistols are another matter. All were hand-fit, which should combine with the adjustable target sights for a very accurate pistol. While perhaps uncomfortably large for those with smaller hands, the frame becomes comfortable quickly with a little handling and the trigger is crisp. This would be great for target shooting, hunting sidearm or just hunting as the .50 AE cartridge is suitable for many game animals. It’s ported barrel bushing also means it would be great to just go out into the desert and have fun watching it spit fire. Please see our photos and good luck!
