Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “45 COLT”, the top is marked “U. S. F. A. MFG. Co / HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.”. The left of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871 / ” JULY.2-72. / “JAN.19-75.”, the bottom of the frame is marked with the serial number “28377” in front of the trigger guard. The left of the backstrap and trigger guard assemblies are each hand-etched with “28377” and assembly number “428” (concealed with the grips installed). The assembly number “428” is stamped on the left-rear face of the frame and on the rear face of the loading gate as well as being hand-etched on the inside of each grip panel. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “D” and “377”.

Barrel Length: 4 3/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black hard rubber panels with “US” in oval at the tops. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: “Dome Blue” grip frame, barrel and cylinder, bone case color hardened frame.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish. The hammer has light wear in the top of the spur. The cylinder has a faint turn line and a few scattered light marks. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Cylinder lockup produces almost no play on each chamber. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a two-piece cardboard USFA box with serial-matching label, black drawstring USFA bag and an assortment of paperwork including manual. The box has light wear at edges and corners, in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: Colt’s Model 1873, the Single Action Army, is the “gun that won the west”, perhaps the most iconic handgun of all time. For nearly 150 years, the gun has been produced in a variety of configurations, finishes and calibers. This revolver is the absolute closest to a Colt you can get without a pony on the side. Produced by US Firearms in the old Colt plant in Hartford, Connecticut “under the blue dome” and 100% US made, this USFA single action is a beauty to behold and one of the finest single action revolvers ever produced. It is in Excellent condition with 97% of its beautiful “Dome Blue” and true case hardened finish, a bright bore with sharp rifling and strong mechanics. It comes in its original box and with a USFA bag and manual. If you want a “Colt” made better than Colt, this is your best option as USFA is no longer in business, making these high quality revolvers not only less common than real Colts, but becoming more scarce every day. Please see our photos and good luck!
