Our Assessment: This limited edition Browning Hi-Power Mk. III American Eagle Renaissance is a spectacularly finished collector’s pistol—one of just 750 produced and a gleaming tribute to the legacy of John Browning’s most widely adopted design. Manufactured by FN in Belgium and assembled in Portugal in 1995, this Renaissance model showcases exquisite scroll and oak leaf engraving over a high-polish blue finish with 24k gold-plated highlights. The top of the slide features the American Eagle emblem along with the commemorative ribbon banner, giving this Hi-Power not just visual distinction, but a ceremonial feel befitting its status as a numbered limited edition. Numbered AE174, this example embodies the artistry, balance, and mechanical excellence that made the Hi-Power an enduring icon in both military and civilian circles. Mechanically, the pistol retains all the trusted attributes of the Mk. III platform—an exposed hammer, single-action trigger, 4.7-inch barrel, and detachable magazine system. Chambered in 9mm Luger, it remains capable and familiar to modern shooters while elevated far beyond service-grade form. The bore is pristine, rating a 10/10 with sharp rifling and no erosion, and the action functions correctly with all controls operating smoothly. The Ivorene grips, etched in oak leaf and scroll pattern, remain flawless, completing the pistol’s striking visual profile. The limited edition serial number, Belgian Crown PV proof, and unique Renaissance markings all underscore its collector pedigree.
With its matching Browning hard case, original 10-round magazine, and near-flawless finish, this American Eagle Renaissance Hi-Power is a top-tier acquisition for collectors of Browning commemoratives, engraved pistols, or historically significant semi-automatic handguns. It’s as much a piece of art as it is a functioning firearm—celebrating the design brilliance of the Hi-Power while showcasing FN’s commitment to legacy and craftsmanship in the final decade of 20th-century production. -R.E.
