This CMP replacement stock and handguards show some light scattered surface wear from handling and storage with a small compression in the comb near the butt, and a rub mark on the right side of the forend. There are no visible chips or cracks. Overall the wood is in Excellent condition. The buttplate similarly has almost no wear and is in excellent condition.

Bore Condition: This rifle had the barrel replaced with a Criterion Barrel in 2022. The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp, there is no erosion in the bore. The CMP grading tag and our gauges show a muzzle of 0 and a throat erosion of 0. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: The barrel has not been refinished, the receiver has been refinished, the op rod, clip latch and gas tube assembly have been refinished. Some of the refinished metal surfaces appear to have been lightly pitted and scratched before they were refinished. The metal surfaces have some light handling and storage wear with dust. The bolt shows some very light rub wear on the friction surfaces. The end of the charging handle has some nicks in the finish. The inside of the rifle is fairly dusty and has a lot of grease on some of the parts. This will be able to be easily removed with a proper cleaning. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the CMP hard case, en bloc clip, owner’s manual, card, CMP rating tag, and Certificate of Authenticity.
Our Assessment: The Winchester M1 Garand is one of the most sought-after variations of the legendary M1 Garand, the standard-issue semi-automatic rifle of the U.S. military during World War II and the Korean War. This particular example features a Winchester receiver manufactured in May 1942, placing its original production in the early stages of America’s involvement in World War II. Winchester was one of only two original manufacturers of the M1 Garand during the war, producing rifles under contract to supplement Springfield Armory’s output. While Winchester M1 Garands functioned identically to their Springfield counterparts, they have become highly desirable among collectors due to their lower production numbers and distinct markings.
This rifle has been rebarreled by the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) in 2022 with a high-quality Criterion barrel, ensuring outstanding accuracy and longevity. Sold as an Expert Grade, it has been completely refinished and fitted with a brand-new CMP stock set, giving it a fresh, like-new appearance while maintaining its historical significance. The M1 Garand was famously praised by General George S. Patton as “the greatest battle implement ever devised,” thanks to its .30-06 Springfield chambering, reliable gas-operated action, and 8-round en bloc clip-fed system, which provided a significant firepower advantage over bolt-action rifles of the era. While this rifle no longer retains all of its original wartime components, it remains a functional and historically significant piece, perfect for both collectors and shooters who appreciate the legacy of the M1 Garand.
