Our Assessment: The Steyr Model 1912, also known as the “Steyr-Hahn,” is a historically significant pistol that served in both World War I and World War II, primarily with the Austro-Hungarian military and later with German forces. Designed with a distinctive fixed internal magazine loaded via stripper clips, it was built for rugged reliability and chambered in the potent 9mm Steyr cartridge.
This example was manufactured in 1914, making it a true piece of early 20th-century military history. It retains much of its original finish and presents well for its age. The wooden grips, though showing some handling wear, remain intact, and the mechanical function appears sound. The Model 1912 is known for its robust construction and was favored in service due to its durability and ease of maintenance.
For collectors and enthusiasts of early semi-automatic military firearms, this Steyr-Hahn is a fascinating and desirable piece. Whether as part of an Austro-Hungarian collection or as a representative of early service pistols, this C&R-eligible handgun is a valuable and historical addition.
