Markings: The tang is marked “B5492”.The top of the barrel is marked “Shiloh-Sharps Model 1874” and “CALIBRE 40 / 40-65”. The left side of the receiver is marked “SHILOH RIFLE MFG. CO. BIG TIMBER, MONTANA.”.
Barrel Length: 30” Standard Round Barrel. This rifle weighs approximately 11lbs 8OZ.
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a Globe front sight with a circle post insert. The rear sight is an MVA Vernier tang sight with a mid range staff and Hadley multi aperture eye disc mounted to the upper tang. This is a premium sight set in Excellent condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a two piece smooth “Fancy” walnut. The buttstock is a full pistol grip with smooth curved lower tang, straight comb, and has a plastic checkered buttplate with fire blued screws. The handguard features a Hartford tip smooth forend with fire blued screws. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The Hartford tip shows some minor surface lines/marks common with that type of finish. The wood shows scattered light handling marks and a few patches of light discoloration in the finish. There are no visible chips or cracks. The Furniture is in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: The barrel and sights are blued and the receiver, lever, tangs and hammer are color case hardened. All the screws are fire blued.
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains 99% of its finish. The barrel has some very minor barely visible marks scattered throughout. The action is very clean. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Excellent to Excellent + condition.
Mechanics: This rifle has a single trigger, which functions correctly. The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a case guard case with 50x 40-65 brass cases, the cases have been fired and the primers have been removed.
