Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling wear, thinning on high edges, and scattered light oxidation. There are light marks and scuffs consistent with use. The screw heads are sharp, and the markings are clear and well-defined. Overall, this pistol rates in about very good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  This Colt 1911, originally manufactured in 1918, was later issued under the lend-lease program to France, where it likely saw continued military service. The Remington Rand slide is a WWII-era replacement, a common feature on service pistols that underwent arsenal rebuilds. Many of these lend-lease pistols were refinished and reissued by various military forces, reflecting their long and storied history.  This pistol was shipped to France Jan. 3 1918 .( Clawson Colt .45 Service Pistols page 384)

The Colt frame from World War I and the Remington Rand slide from World War II make this a fascinating piece of history, bridging two global conflicts. Its French service adds another layer of collectibility, as relatively few lend-lease pistols were returned to the United States.

This is an excellent pistol for collectors of U.S. military firearms, historical enthusiasts interested in lend-lease weapons, or shooters looking for a classic, battle-proven .45 ACP sidearm.  Please see our High Quality Photos and good luck on your bids.-C.M.
