Markings: The receiver is satin nickel and has about 80% coverage in scroll engraving and deep relief gaming scenes on the flanks. The flanks read “P. Beretta” in scroll, the inside inside of the frame has two proof marks, the bottom of the frame is marked “MADE IN ITALY / P. BERETTA / SILVER PIGEON II” with “J.E.G. Special) in circled ring around a pigeon in full flight, the trigger guard plate is marked “PATENTED”, the trigger guard has Beretta’s logo, the upper tang is marked with the serial number and “SILVER PIGEON”. The left side of the 28 Gauge barrel set is marked “28 GA. 2 ¾” – 70-28 / 13.9” with a proof, “-EXCELSIOR – HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL – / KG1, 170 13.9” with a second proof, the underside is marked “813205 / JE1335”, with two proofs and “CC” in rectangle, the right side is marked “BERETTA USA CORP ACCK. MD / WARNING – READ INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR SAFE OPERATION / BOOK FREE FROM BERETTA”. The .410 Gauge barrel set is marked “410 ga 3 – 76 – 28 / 19,3”, with a proof mark, “-EXCELSIOR – HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL- / KG1,340 10, 3” with a second proof mark, the bottom is marked “813238 / JE1355 / R541358” with two proof marks and “CC” in rectangle, the right side is marked “BERETTA USA CORP ACCK. MD / WARNING – READ INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR SAFE OPERATION / BOOK FREE FROM BERETTA”. The top of the barrel sets have “1” and “2” in silver inlay, the forend release levers are marked “1” and “2” respectively with the 28 Gauge set being number one. The forends have fine scroll engraving.

Choke: This lot includes 19 chokes in the following: (.410); Cylinder (x2), Improved Cylinder (x2), Modified (x1), Improved Modified (x1), Skeet (x2). (28 Gauge); Full (x1), Modified (x2), Improved Cylinder (x2), Cylinder (x2), Improved Modified (x2), Skeet (x2).
Sights / Optics: Each barrel set has a silver bead blade screwed into the ventilated ribs, which have fine checkering on top for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are select matte oil finished walnut sets; each barrel’s forend is checkered and feature satin nickel finished portions that are finely engraved as photographed. The 28 gauge forend has scuffs in jagged form, most visible in the smooth portions; the scuffs do not penetrate deeply but are visible; the checkering has areas of light to moderate scuffing. The .410 gauge set forend has heavier compression marks, indentations and scratches passing through portions of the checkered and smooth portions, most notably on the left side. The butt stock has checkering on the flanks of the pistol grip stock that has a pinched, strait comb. The stock has compression marks and scuffs in scattered areas with deeper compressions present near the toe on the right side, left side near the frame and on the flank aft of the pistol grip. The left side has some compression to the checkers with some material stuck between the checkers. The drop at comb is 1 7/16”, the drop at heel is 2 1/8” with a neutral cast. The LOP measures 14 ½” from the front of the trigger to the back of the shotgun-style recoil pad. The pad is near vertical in stature, a second pad is provided that has a shallow curve and increases the LOP to 14 ¾”. The stocks rate in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with minor scuff wear present. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 90% of its metal finish between the two barrel sets and frame. The sets have scratches and scuffs with areas of minor chafing. The left side of the .410 set has a cluster of jagged scratches. The barrel lugs have scratches on the flanks, mostly in the jeweled surfaces; the sets have accumulated wear from the forends being installed and removed repeatedly. The interior surfaces of the frame has operational wear and scratches from the sets being removed and set into position. The exterior only has shallow scuffs and light scratches visible in the smooth areas. The trigger has areas of wear through the gold finish from the shooter’s trigger finger. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good Plus condition and would rate higher but for the deeper marks in the stocks and clusters of scratches on the .410 barrel set.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The shotgun features a tang mounted safety and chamber selector; the single trigger has a crisp pull and break with no grit; the action closes smoothly with no movement, with both sets. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included are 19 chokes as described above in “Chokes”, all of which exhibiting minor wear with no erosion. There is some resilient fowling and carbon burning present but a thorough cleaning will shine them up. Also included is an extra Beretta brand semi-curved shotgun style recoil pad that has scuff wear and is pliable. Two blue cardboard Beretta choke boxes comes with this lot, as does a blue hard plastic case that is blue velvet lined, showing scuffs and discoloration from storage and use. Also included is a Beretta multi-tool that is in its original sleeve, appearing to have little to no use.
Our Assessment: Beretta simply outdid themselves with the Silver Pigeon II, the double barrel-set that is serialized to this shotgun increases usability and the 19 included chokes is a major plus. The shotgun has fine engraving throughout the frame and in components of the forends of both sets. The satin nickel contrasts well against the blued barrel sets that have vented ribs and a crisp line of sight. This configuration is a Sporter, J.E.G. (Joel Etchen Guns) Combination Special that has complete balance and a solid action. The wood stocks have light to medium depth scratches and scuffs with areas of deeper compression, especially on the butt stock. The metal surfaces have areas of abrasion from the barrel sets being set and removed from the frame, along with normal operational wear. The .410 set has a cluster of jagged scratches on the left side and the frame shows some scratches in the smooth portions. All said, this shotgun and barrel sets have seen some honest use and it is now available to the next sporting clays guru. Please see our pictures and good luck.
