Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “0981” The underside of the scope is marked “0981”. The scope adjustment knobs are marked “ZF4IS CARL ZEISS JENA DDR” and “363474”. The underside of the bolt is marked “0981”. The underside of the barrel is marked “ SSG82 5.45X39 FAJAS GERMANY CAA. ST. ALB. VT.”

Sights / Optics: This rifle has a Carl Zeiss Scope Attached. The scope is very clear and crisp. It is serially matching to the gun. The scope has only a couple of light handling marks on it.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one piece target stock with stippled right handed pistol grip and forend section. There are no cracks. There are light scattered handling marks and a few compression marks. The LOP measures 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the vertically adjustable buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is Bright and the rifling is sharp. The barrel has a recessed crown. There is No erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only light marks. The screw heads are mostly sharp. Some screws show light damage. All are serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.

The 82 denotes the year the rifle was designed, thus the name; Scharfschützengewehr 82.” This is a rifle with reported capabilities of high degrees of accuracy. Some have reported one hole 5 shot groups where others have reported 4 inch 3 shot groups and anywhere in between. In the hands of a competent shooter, this rifle can achieve great things. There were only 2000 of these rifles made and this was made about mid production with a serial number of 981. The SSG has a cold hammer forged receiver and free floating barrel with a semi bull profile and a target crown. The two stage trigger is reportedly adjustable between .7-.9 lb. If you are looking for a rare gun, this is it!
