The rear sight is a Bo-Mar large serrated leaf with a square notch that is adjustable for windage and elevation that was custom fit onto the pistol’s slide when King’s Gun Works’ “Al” Capone modified the piece.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a one piece wrap-around checkered ‘double diamond’-style rubber Bianchi grips made by Pachmayr. Finish Originality: The frame’s finish is original, the slide was stripped and refinished during King’s Gun Works modification.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling shows some light wear, though it is highly defined. There is fowling and carbon buildup, but no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 84% of its metal finish. There are scuffs and scratches throughout the surfaces with finish loss on some of the interacting metal surfaces from operation. There is a scratch mark at the slide stop hole, on the left side of the frame. There are scuff, scratch and wear marks visible underneath the existing finish of the slide (King’s company logo was marked on the pistol before it was refinished). The barrel bushing has some frosting in the finish along with some light scratches and scuffs. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition as having been professionally modified.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The pistol was customized by King’s Gun Works’ Arnold “Al” Capone, who added an extended slide stop, extended slide safety, extended beavertail grip safety (that is not fit flush to the frame, as photographed) which has less spring resistance than a normal 1911-A1. The trigger has some wobble in it but breaks clean around 4lbs. The pistol was modified to eject shells strait up and over-head by tuning the extractor and ejector. The slide was custom milled to accept a Bo-Mar rear sight, . We did not fire this handgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A King’s Gun Works (1837 W. Glenoaks Blvd Glendale, California 91201 address) gun cloth, exhibiting some staining with no major damages and a Springfield factory hard blue plastic case that does not have an end label. One magazine is provided as photographed. The case, magazine and cloth rate in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: This is a custom King’s Gun Works Springfield 1911-A1. The slide was refinished after custom sights were installed and the ejector / extractor tuned to eject strait up and over-head. The grip safety was replaced with an extended beavertail version. The pistol looks very sharp with only minor cosmetic issues. The rifling has some wear but in all, this is a Fine condition pistol as modified and is perfect for IPSC speed shooting competitions. Being chambered in .45 Auto (A.C.P.), this pistol could also double as an effective defensive piece. Please see our photographs and read above for more information on the modifications to this pistol.
