Markings: Left side of the receiver is marked “WISE LITE ARMS / BOYD, TX / MOD. AJM53 / WLA29-7384 / 8MM MAUSER”. Left side of the pistol grip is marked “F222”. Right side of the receiver above the charging handle is marked “S-S112-24913”, the charging handle is marked “113-23334”, and the charging handle cover is marked “S114-23329”. The top plate is marked “N-43265” with a circular logo with a torch and “29XI1943”. Left side of the buttstock is marked “14183”. The top of the receiver is marked “USE MILITARY SPECIFICATION AMMUNITION ONLY / DO NOT USE COMMERCIAL AMMUNITION IN THIS FIREARM”.  There are several proofs under the receiver as well as on top and on some of the small parts.

Barrel Length: 21.5”

Sights / Optics:  The front sight is a blade dovetailed to a flip up post at the front of the shroud.  The rear sight is a v-notch tangent escalator leaf sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The buttstock is wood and the pistol grips are synthetic. There is some general wear on the grip and buttstock as they are surplus parts.  The LOP measures 16” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttstock. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.  There are no chips or cracks.  The buttstock has some chips in the black paint.

Type of Finish:  Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little to no wear.  The screw heads are sharp and pins are workable. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition. The barrel change system works as intended and all parts are well lubricated and clean.

Mechanics: The rifle’s action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The Wise Lite Arms AJM-53 is a modern-day civilian reproduction of the Yugoslav M53, itself a near-clone of the renowned German MG-42 machine gun used extensively in World War II. Wise Lite Arms has made a name for itself in the firearms community by offering functional replicas that are both reliable and true to their historical counterparts. While the AJM-53 is semi-automatic to comply with current firearms laws, it retains the distinctive design and function of its full-auto inspirations.

Crafted with a focus on quality and detail, the AJM-53 usually features a stamped steel receiver, a quick-change barrel system, and a caliber chambering that’s often 8mm Mauser, aligning with its historical antecedents.
