Our Assessment: The Harrington & Richardson (H&R) M1 Garand is a variant of the famous M1 Garand rifle, which was the standard service rifle of the United States military during World War II and the Korean War. Harrington & Richardson was one of several companies contracted to produce M1 Garands to meet the high demand of the military.
Harrington & Richardson began production of the M1 Garand in the late 1950s, several years after the end of World War II. The company manufactured these rifles until the early 1970s. The H&R M1 Garands were produced for both military and civilian markets, with variations in specifications and markings.
The H&R M1 Garand rifles followed the basic design of the original M1 Garand, which was developed by John C. Garand and adopted by the U.S. military in 1936. The rifle features a gas-operated, semi-automatic action, and it is chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a powerful rifle cartridge. It has an internal magazine with an 8-round capacity using en bloc clips.
H&R M1 Garands are known for their sturdy construction and reliability. They were manufactured with forged steel receivers and barrels, providing durability and accuracy. The wood stocks were typically made of American walnut and often feature distinctive H&R markings on the stock and receiver.
Today, H&R M1 Garand rifles are highly regarded by collectors and enthusiasts for their historical significance and quality craftsmanship. They represent an important chapter in the development and use of the M1 Garand rifle, a true icon of American military firearms.
Overall, the Harrington & Richardson M1 Garand played a role in extending the service life of the M1 Garand beyond its initial production period, and it continues to be appreciated for its contribution to the legacy of this legendary rifle.
This Harrington & Richardson Arms M1 Garand was made back in 1953. It uses many Harrington & Richardson parts with a mix of Springfield parts as well as having an older Springfield barrel that is in Very Good condition. This is a highly collectible rifle that is ideal for a Garand collection. Good Luck!
