Our Assessment: The Cooper Firearms Model 56 chambered in .308 Norma Magnum is a high-performance bolt-action rifle that reflects the precision engineering and fine craftsmanship for which Cooper Firearms is known. The .308 Norma Magnum cartridge, introduced in the early 1960s, offers impressive ballistics that rival the .300 Winchester Magnum, making it an excellent choice for long-range shooting and big game hunting.
The Model 56 is built to maximize the potential of the .308 Norma Magnum, featuring a robust and smooth bolt action that ensures reliable cycling and consistent performance. The rifle typically comes equipped with a match-grade barrel, which is critical for achieving the pinpoint accuracy that Cooper Firearms rifles are celebrated for. The barrel’s heavy contour helps to reduce recoil and maintain accuracy over extended shooting sessions, making it ideal for precision shooting.
The stock of the Model 56 is usually crafted from high-quality materials, such as select walnut or composite, designed for both aesthetic appeal and functional ergonomics. The rifle’s design includes a free-floated barrel, enhancing accuracy by eliminating contact with the stock that could affect the barrel’s harmonics.
The trigger is another highlight of the Model 56, offering adjustability for a crisp, clean pull that aids in precise shot placement. Whether you’re a dedicated hunter pursuing large game or a long-range shooting enthusiast, the Cooper Firearms Model 56 in .308 Norma Magnum delivers the power, accuracy, and reliability needed for success in the field. This rifle is a testament to the combination of classic design and modern precision, making it a prized possession for those who demand the best.
