The bottom of the receiver is marked “PATENT / BLASER” around a “JHB” monogram (presumably Jagdwaffen Horst Blaser). The receiver has decorative engraving with a buck scene on the right and a fowl scene on the left. There is a TGGI import mark on the bottom of the rifle barrel in front of the forend.

Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass blade in-line dovetailed to the front of the rib; the blade has been painted black with the rear face showing brass. The rear sight is a “U”-notch dovetailed and screw-set to the rib. There are bases for a quick-detach claw-mount on the rear of the rib (no mount included).
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece skip-line checkered walnut with capped pistol grip, arched comb with cheekpiece, black rubber Hiviz XCoil recoil pad and a sling swivel in the belly (there is another swivel mounted to the mid-rib in front of the forend. The stocks have some light nicks and scratches, mostly in the buttstock behind the grip. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 14 1/2″ and 13 5/8″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the pad, 13 5/8″ and 12 3/4″ to the back of the wood. The pad has some shaping wear with a little bit of fraying at the toe, it is still quite supple. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good-plus condition.
Type of Finish: Blue & Alloy Frame
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bores are mostly bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bores, but there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate about 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The barrels have a few nicks and scuffs, most notable on the top of the rib. The scope bases show wear from use, most notable on the rear indexing post. The receiver has light handling marks. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun is in Very Good-Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The “safety” is actually a cocking-piece. It must be pushed forward to cock the gun for each shot. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: While Blaser Jagdwaffen is perhaps best known today for their modular straight-pull R93 and R8 bolt action rifles, the history of the company goes back to 1957 when it was founded by Horst Blaser. The company made more traditional sporting guns including bockbüchsflintes, over/under double guns. This is a very interesting example from 1965. It has a 16 gauge barrel over a rifle barrel chambered for .222 Remington Magnum. The alloy receiver and plastic trigger guard keep the weight down to just under six pounds. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the combination safety/cocking piece/cocking indicator. The slide on the top tang serves as all three, having to be pushed forward to cock the gun for each shot and allowing the gun to be easily and quickly de-cocked without firing. The ability to take both fowl and terrestrial game as well as the intriguing design make for a great, well-rounded hunting gun. It will also make a nice addition to a European sporting gun collection as a neat example of an early Blaser. Please see our pictures and good luck!
