Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 92% of its metal finish. The balance is mostly in evenly scattered freckling and frosting. There are a few tiny spots of oxidation through the finish, most notable on the left recoil shield. There are a few other scattered minor marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good-Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions properly. The frame is “black powder” style with the cylinder pin secured by a set-screw. The cylinder bushing is removable. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a Colt Peacemaker Centennial display case.
Our Assessment: The Single Action Army, as we know it, began life as the U.S. government service revolver (for trials) of 1872. The gun was soon adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892. The Colt Single Action Army has been offered in over 30 different calibers and various barrel lengths. Its overall appearance has remained consistent since 1873. Colt has discontinued its production twice, but brought it back due to popular demand. The revolver was popular with ranchers, lawmen, and outlaws alike, but current models are mostly bought by collectors and reenactors. Its design has influenced the production of numerous other models from other companies. Here is a true Colt Peacemaker revolver, built by the same company that brought us this gun over 100 years ago. It is the “Frontier Six-Shooter”, chambered for the .44-40 Winchester cartridge. The revolver has a lot of features calling back to the original including a screw-secured cylinder pin, “V”-notch rear sight, faux-etched panel barrel marking, and 1st Gen-style serial placement. Whether a Single Action Collector, Handgun Collector, Colt Collector or Commemorative Collector – this revolver belongs in your gun room. Please see our photos and good luck!
