Our Assessment:  The Colt M2012 CLR chambered in 308 Winchester is a notable entry in the realm of bolt-action Long Range Competition rifles, crafted during a unique period in Colt’s long history of firearm manufacturing. This model was developed as part of Colt’s venture into the bolt-action rifle market, aiming to offer competitive shooters a high-performance option for medium to large game. The choice of .308 Winchester as one of its chamberings highlights the rifle’s intended use for long-range shooting, leveraging the .308 Win’s reputation for flat trajectory and high velocity to deliver precise shots at Long distance.

The new bolt gun is built on a Cooper Firearms receiver, and it does not lack for, well, anything. The receiver has a match stainless barrel screwed into it; it’s custom fluted, with all the associated parts blueprinted. The barrel has a muzzle brake on the end of its 22 inches of  fluted, stainless, meticulously crafted, barrel , and the bolt is a three-lug design for short bolt lift,( 60 Degrees ) with a spring-loaded plunger ejector and Sako-style extractor. The action is bolted into a solid aluminum chassis, which is machined from a forging, and fed through the bottom by means of a detachable box magazine. The action is bolted into a solid aluminum chassis, which is machined from a forging, and fed through the bottom by means of a detachable box magazine. The fore-end is slotted for cooling and features a row of threaded holes along each side, places you can bolt on sections of rail. You can mount lights, lasers, pretty much anything that will fit on a Picatinny rail; once you have the rail where you want it. The nice thing about this design is that if you don’t want or need rail sections, you have a sleek fore-end and a lighter rifle overall.

In the modern world of tactical and long-range shooting, a 13-pound rifle is not unusual. The trigger is without fault, as you’d expect from a Timney Single Stage adjustable trigger. It is clean, crisp and light, but not so light you have to approach it hesitantly; The Accurate-Mag magazine is held in place by a latch on the rear of the magazine well — a big, paddle-shaped latch, one you will not miss under stress. The magazines are single-point feed and hold five rounds, with 10-round magazines as an option.

The Colt M2012 CLR Competition Rifle is distinguished by its sleek design without compromising durability or accuracy. The rifle features a stock that contributes to its resilience in adverse weather conditions, ensuring reliable performance in various environments.

Though the M2012-CLR has enjoyed a relatively brief production run, it remains a sought-after piece among collectors and hunters alike. Its association with Colt, a company with a storied history in American firearms development, adds to its allure. The rifle’s performance, coupled with its rarity and the Colt legacy, makes it a unique and valuable addition to any firearm collection, especially for those with an appreciation for competitive and tactical shooting . So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition in our high quality photos. Good luck on your bid. -K.F.
