Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates a 10/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder shows very minor wear. It shows lines that are not truly “turn-lines” from function but rather from something else. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver appears in Excellent condition. The case coloring on this revolver is truly impeccable. Please see the high definition photos.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Cylinder lockup produces no play on each chamber. The trigger is crisp. The cylinder has a removable bushing. The firing pin is conical and there is no window in the loading gate at the hinge, indicative of US-made parts. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a hinge-lid cardboard USFA box with black exterior, green interior, serial-matching label. The box has minor storage wear. The previous owner has been nice enough to include a “egg crate style cushion for the revolver.
Our Assessment: Colt’s Model 1873, the Single Action Army, is the “gun that won the west”, perhaps the most iconic handgun of all time. For nearly 150 years, the gun has been produced in a variety of configurations, finishes and calibers. This revolver is the absolute closest to a Colt you can get without a pony on the side. USFA set up their factory “under the Blue Dome” in the old Colt Armory facility in Hartford, Connecticut and produced arguably the finest SAA revolvers made, certainly the best which were not made by Colt.
This USFA has a blue and case color finish with a 7 ½” barrel, chambered for the .45 Colt. It appears in Excellent condition, with little to no evidence of actual use. In any case this gorgeous revolver will make a great addition to any collection. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition in our high quality photos. Good luck on your bid. -K.F.
