Stock Configuration and Condition: The grip is a one-piece checkered black rubber Pachmayr Presentation grip with gold-colored Colt medallions. The grip has small tears at the seam on the butt. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. Overall, the grip is in Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges, most notable at the muzzle on the right. The action shows faint operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has minor play. The double action trigger pull is smooth, single action is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This revolver comes in a faux-wood cardboard Colt box with serial-matching label, two-piece styrofoam insert, and factory paperwork NOT including manual.
Our Assessment: The original Trooper was a heavy-barreled version of the Officers Model Match and was based on Colt’s medium I frame. It was offered in .22 Long Rifle and .38 Special chamberings. Manufactured with fine carbon steel, it was available in both blued and nickel-plated finishes. This example was produced in the early 1980s and is in Fine condition, retaining 97% original blue finish, a great bore and strong mechanics. It even comes with its original box! This will make a great addition to a Colt collection missing the Mark V Trooper. With an 8″ barrel chambered for .357 Magnum, it should also prove to be a good target or hunting revolver.
