Another swivel is mounted through the forend in front of the checkering. An after-market brown rubber cheek pad has been installed on the cheekpiece. The stock has some scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ and 12 1/2″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the recoil pad, 12 1/2″ and 11 1/2″ to the back of the wood. The pad has light wear and has hardened just slightly with age. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly with sharp rifling. There is some light erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates about 8 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. There is some finish wear on the front sight base and barrel band. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with usable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is leather sling.
Our Assessment: The Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles were very popular in Europe, and were mainly made in European calibers until after WWII when they began to be imported into the United States. The Model 1900 rifle continuously evolved until the last model was developed: the Model 1961 MCA. The Model 1956 MC came about from Stoeger’s urging in order to increase sales in the United States. A tall Monte Carlo comb (hence the MC designation) with cheekpiece was added to make the rifle easier to use with a scope. This is an M1956 MC Carbine with a 20” barrel chambered in .243 Winchester. The rifle has a full-length Mannlicher style stock and is equipped with double set-triggers. It has also been equipped with both a recoil pad and a rubber cheekpad. The rifle is in Very Good-Fine condition with about 96% of its original metal finish remaining. The bore has a little erosion, but is mostly bright and the mechanics are still good. Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles are known to have the smoothest action of any bolt action rifle, helped a little by their rotary magazine that does not drag on the bolt like the follower in a conventional magazine. Although this rifle would make someone a great lightweight deer rifle that is flat- and soft-shooting, it is also likely to catch the attention of the collectors out there.
