Our Assessment: The original Beretta Model 92, introduced in 1976, is a seminal semi-automatic pistol that has had a significant impact on the world of handguns. This example made in 1980 is the predecessor to the famous Beretta 92F and 92FS, has a rich history and was a notable advancement in firearm design during its time. The Beretta Model 92 was designed by Carlo Beretta, Giuseppe Mazzetti, and Vittorio Valle. It drew from previous Beretta designs, particularly the Beretta Model 1951, but also incorporated elements from the Walther P38, including the open slide design and the locking block system. This combination of features provided the Model 92 with excellent reliability and smooth cycling, characteristics that have come to define the series. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, the Model 92 was designed to use a high-capacity double-stack magazine, holding 15 rounds. This capacity was considerable for the time, providing users with ample firepower. The magazine release was originally located at the bottom of the grip, a European-style feature that would later be changed to a more conventional button release behind the trigger guard in subsequent models. The original Model 92 was praised for its accuracy, reliability, and ease of maintenance. Its design allowed for easy disassembly without tools, making it user-friendly for both military and civilian users. The balance and ergonomics of the pistol, combined with its relatively mild recoil due to the 9mm cartridge, made it a favorite among shooters. In summary, this original Beretta Model 92 represents a pivotal moment in handgun design. Its combination of innovative features, reliability, and user-friendly design set a new standard for semi-automatic pistols. The success of the Model 92 established Beretta as a major player in the handgun market and laid the groundwork for the enduring legacy of the 92 series. Please see our photos and best of luck with your bidding!!!-R.L.
