Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated, hooded, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for an optic mount (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with pistol grip, straight comb, basketweave textured black rubber Browning buttpad, and sling studs front and rear. The stocks have scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches, most notable in the forend checkering. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8? from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad shows minor wear. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued, Black alloy trigger guard and floorplate.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some light nicks and scratches, mostly on the receiver and edges of the trigger guard. There is wear on the front sight base consistent with installation/removal of the hood. The action shows light operational wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a cross-bolt safety behind the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a three-round magazine, clipped into the hinged floorplate.

Our Assessment: The Browning BAR rifle was produced starting in 1967, and in the early 1970’s, assembly was transferred to Portugal. This is a Belgian made, Portuguese assembled BAR High Power Rifle manufactured in 1977 and chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum. It has a 24? barrel which has a strong bore. The rifle looks to have seen responsible use in the field, retaining about 95% of its metal finish, scattered light wear in the stocks, and strong mechanics. This semi-automatic rifle is chambered for a popular hunting cartridge and will make for a great game rifle that will provide the fastest possible follow-up shots.
