Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a recessed white dot fixed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch with two recessed white dots dovetailed to the rear of the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece “rattlesnake” panels with a Colt Legacy Edition medallion in the left panel. A few of the scales are rising up slightly, but there is no notable damage. Overall, the grips are in Fine-Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: “Titanium” & Titanium Nitride Trim
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is some very minor erosion toward the top-rear on the right side (facing down in the display case). Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Very Good condition (see Mechanics).
Mechanics: The trigger return spring is weak, it does not return reliably. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. The slide has minor play to the frame. The trigger is crisp. This pistol has a Series 80-style firing pin safety. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 7-round magazine and an American Historical Foundation display case with key.
Our Assessment: This is a Colt Series 80 Government Model commissioned by The American Historical Foundation for their Colt Rattlesnake Legacy Edition, a limited run of 1,000 pistols. The pistol is adorned with rattlesnake grips, “titanium” and titanium-nitride finish, and custom engraving.
