Barrel Length: 24”
Sights / Optics: There is no provision for an iron sight. There are two permanently filled holes at the rear of the barrel. The top of the receiver is equipped with a Leupold rail and two rings supporting a Leupold VX-III scope with 2.5-8x magnification and a duplex reticle. The scope rates in about Fine-Plus condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece skip-line checkered walnut with a Monte Carlo comb with cheekpiece, rosewood capped pistol grip and forend, one thru-bolt, sling studs, and a brown ventilated Browning recoil pad. We believe this is a Medallion grade stock on a Safari grade rifle. There is a notable compression on the left side of the buttstock behind the cheekpiece. There are a few other tiny dings and faint lines throughout. The checkering is sharp. These stocks were known to have salt brine between the years 1967-1969. This example was manufactured well before, in 1964. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad has become somewhat firm with age yet remains slightly pliable, showing rub wear on the face and edges. The stock rates in about Fine-Plus condition as likely not original to the rifle.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The bolt handle shows a pleasant plum hue. There are some light scratches on the trigger guard. The screw heads are faintly tool marked and the markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The previously mentioned scope is included.
Our Assessment: The High-Power was offered in three grades, including Safari, Medallion and Olympian. In spite of the Safari being the base rifle, it was a beauty with select walnut stock wood and hand-cut checkering. The trigger guard and floorplate were lightly engraved and highlighted with gold. This was a beautiful rifle when it was made 60 years ago, and is still a beautiful rifle to this day. In addition to its good looks, it has a strong FN Mauser style action. With its .300 H&H Magnum, it is the perfect rifle for medium-to-large game hunting, including African large cats. Please see our photos and good luck!
