Stock Configuration & Condition: The two-piece grips are brown checkered plastic panels that enclose the backstrap. There is a large chip loss in the center of the right side checkering surrounded by several cracks. There are faint scratches and tiny nicks throughout the smooth borders. The checkering is generally sharp where not interrupted by the chip loss. The grips rate in about Fair-Plus overall condition and would rate higher if not for the chip and cracks.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is well defined. There is some faint erosion in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates an 8 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 82% of its metal finish. There is thinning at the leading edges. There is scattered surface erosion throughout with the most notable on the front strap and chamber. There are nicks and scratches throughout. The action shows standard operational wear. The screw head is lightly tool marked. The markings are legible. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action trigger pull is a little stiff and the single action pull is crisp. This pistol has a decocker. We did not fire this handgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None. No magazine is included.

Our Assessment: Walther’s original factory was located in a-Mehlis in the “Land” (state) of Thuringia. As that part of Germany was occupied by the Soviet Union following World War II, Walther fled to West Germany, where they established a new factory in Ulm. This is a .32 caliber Walther Model PPK made in 1940, near the beginning of WWII, at the factory in Thuringia. Interestingly, it has a Czech proof and import number. There is debate over whether these markings are part of a police contract or merely import markings for commercial sales. In any event, this example is a rare find for an esteemed collector. It is in Very Good condition with roughly 82% original finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and just a few faint spots of erosion. Walther’s are known for their reliability, and this should give someone decades of shooting fun. That said, they are also collectible. This example is in high condition and would be a great addition to a Walther collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
