Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade attached to a ramped base, the rear sight is a V notch flip up sight dovetailed to the scope mount.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece checkered beautifully figured wood stock has a pistol grip, fluted straight comb and a rubber buttpad. The wood shows a light handling and storage marks with a few compressions and drag lines present. Some of the checkering shows wear. Ther sling swivels are absent, the holes are unfilled. Ther are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.50” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. This stock rates in about Fine Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates a 9.5 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The metal shows a couple of light handling and storage marks. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions Correctly. The tang safety functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Ruger No. 1 is a single-shot rifle produced by the American firearms company, Sturm, Ruger & Co. The rifle is known for its elegant design and high level of accuracy, and has been produced in a variety of calibers over the years. When the Ruger No. 1 is chambered in .500 Nitro Express, it becomes one of the largest chamberings at the range and on your next hunt. This example was manufactured in 1976 and is in fantastic shape, showing little use, it has a great bore and strong mechanics. The single-shot design allows for more precise shot placement, while the accuracy of the cartridge makes it suitable for hunting large game or having everyone at your local range flinch when you let off a round.
