Sights / Optics: There are no sights present, however, the top of the barrel is screw tapped and screw filled for mountings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one piece checkered wood with pistol grip, fluted wrist, straight comb and brown textured butt pad. The wood shows minor  handling and storage marks. The LOP measures 13.75” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt pad. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no discernible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion and for the age, this bore rates a 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The metal shows light handling and storage marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This version of the Sharps Model 78 rifle was designed by Bob Swanson of Salt Lake City, Utah. It employed roller bearings at all wear points and had an improved lever with a longer tang and positive lock similar to the one found on Farquharsen rifles. Marked “Sharps Arms Co. SLC Ut Mod. 78” on top of barrel and “22” stamped on the bottom of the frame. The stock is checkered and the top of the barrel is screw tapped and filled for possible mountings. A positive safety was added at the rear of the breechblock with the lever extending over the top. This is a very attractive looking rifle and is chambered in the venerable .30-06 Gov’t, so that you will never need to worry about a shortage of hunting or target ammo at big box stores.
