Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped Trijicon blade dovetailed into the slide. The blade has a tritium lamp which is now faded. The rear sight is a Heinie lo-mount style sight with a square notch and serrated rear face. The rear sight is dovetailed into the slide and also has a set screw.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth wood grips by Kim Ahrends. There are no major defects just light handling wear. The grips rate in Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Hard Chrome by Mahovksy’s Metalife
Finish Originality: The finish Original to Customization. The slide stop is a stainless steel replacement.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore but there is a bit of fouling. In my opinion, this bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The slide stop is a replacement stainless steel part. There is a bit of finish loss on the rear sight. There are some areas of finish loss on the grip safety. There are scattered light handling marks. There is operational wear. There is light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions properly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. The design was the end-result of a series of developments by famous gun designer John Browning, starting with the Model 1900. The advances made by Browning were revolutionary at the time, and were so successful that they are considered commonplace today. Browning not only developed first a pivoting and then a tilting barrel to allow for a locked system, he developed the concept of “the slide”, which is now synonymous with semi-automatic handguns.
The 1911 design has dominated the gun world with its crisp trigger, intuitive controls, and naturally pointing ergonomics. After over 100 years, it is still the choice of many to compete with or use for defense. With all its characteristics, it is no wonder there are gunsmiths making them from the ground up to tailor every last detail to the shooters wants and needs. This one is pretty damn impressive. This pistol is the brainchild of Josh Bulman of Bulman Holsters out of Duncansville, PA. Not content with starting with a normal blank canvas, Mr. Bulman had a special frame done by Caspian. The grip is Officer length…but the dust cover is standard Government length, which looks exceptional paired with the ball cuts on the slide. The pistol went to the gunsmith but didn’t have far to go, it went to Burwell Gunsmithing…also out of Duncansville. Burwell Gunsmithing built it up and installed all the primo parts including a Schuemann Ultimatch 9mm heavy cone barel, full length guide rod, serrated trigger, skeletonized hammer, and beavertail grip safety. The pistol wears a Trijicon front sight and a Heinie rear. Speaking of Heinie, they used to offer a machining service to gunsmiths and did the machining work on the frontstrap and mainspring housing. The top of the slide is serrated and the radiuses are fluted with a French border cut just below the flutes…trust me, you need to see the pictures. The gun is finished hard chrome by none other than Mahovsky’s Metalife, a 45 year veteran in the field. What good would a sweet pistol like this be without good looking grips? Well, Kim Ahrends has that taken care of, less is more and these smooth wood grips pop against the hard chrome.
This is truly a one-of-a-kind jaw dropper. Say if you managed to get Caspian to do a special frame for you, Burwell Gunsmithing isn’t taking on any more work…and when they do open the books it’s for S&W M&P pistols, NOT 1911s. Say you manage to make it that far, Heinie does not offer the metalwork service as seen here on the frontstrap and MSH. Kim Ahrends no longer produces grips and Ron Mahovsky personally works on the guns he finishes…who knows how long his wait is. So, like I said, ONE OF A KIND. The easiest part may be getting another holster, and for that we would send you to Josh Bulman! Special thanks to Mr. Bulman for discussing this one-of-a-kind pistol with us! He said that the only reason he got rid of it was that 9mm magazines were not the best at the time, then with a laugh he said that now good feeding 9mm magazines can be found anywhere.
