There are scattered light scuffs and handling marks throughout. The screw heads are well-defined. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: This rifle is a Mauser Sporting Carbine Type M (for Mannlicher) made in the 1920s & 30s exclusively for the American market (hence the chambering in .30-06 Springfield and U.S. 1906 marking citing the year the .30-06 was introduced to the US Army). Based on the highly respected Mauser 98 action, this rifle was built to a high standard with a beautiful Mannlicher-style stock designed to be Mauser’s idea of what an ideal light mountain carbine should be. Everything from the spoon-shaped bolt handle to the trap in the buttstock for cleaning supplies focused on this ideal. According to authors like J. Speed and L. Olsen, the Type M was not made in large numbers but it proved to be well-liked by serious mountain hunters and the like. We are very lucky to see one come through our shop. We expect a lot of collector attention but we are hoping some shooters to go for it too. Good luck and may the best bidder win!
