Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some scattered draglines and a few scuffs, some have caused tiny smooth spots. The most noticeable smooth spots are on the frontstrap. There are some scattered handling marks. There is a turn line on the cylinder. The screwheads are sharp to lightly used. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces very little side-to-side play. The double-action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a Smith & Wesson letter and a Smith & Wesson branded Bob Allen soft case.
Our Assessment: Introduced in 1977, the model 63 is a J-frame, stainless steel, rimfire revolver. Its smaller frame and .22 LR chambering make it a nice training revolver for new shooters, especially those with smaller hands. These handy revolvers are dubbed “Kit Guns” for their usefulness in one’s “kit” on hiking, fishing, camping, or other outdoor excursions. This is a No Dash model from before they eliminated the pinned barrel. The Smith & Wesson letter that comes with this gun states that it is a Special Engraved Edition and that it shipped to Ashland Shooting Supply in 1980 and that there was also an engraved Model 66 in the order. The gun is in Excellent condition with some scattered light handling marks and operational wear. It looks phenomenal and has a great bore, it will be a fantastic addition to a collection lacking a 63 and should really appeal to those with an interest in engraved guns. Please see our pictures and good luck!
Some are hot, some are not, but thankfully most can be shot!
