Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT M1991A1”. The right side of the slide is marked “-SERIES 80-”. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” and the serial number. The barrel is marked “-COLT 45 AUTO-”. The right side of the trigger guard is marked “P” on the front bow. The left side of the trigger guard has the “VP” proof at the rear and “A” at the front.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is an aftermarket square notched sight dovetailed into the slide, it is adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered black rubberized panels with molded rampant colt logos. There are a few marks on the bottom faces. The checkering is sharp. There are no rips or tears. The grips are in about Fine Plus condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 92% of its current finish. There is some thinning on the edges. There are a few scattered rubs and scuffs that have thinned the finish. There are takedown arcs on the left side of the frame and slide. There are light handling marks. The screw heads are lightly worn, the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single 7-round magazine and a left handed leather belt holster.

Our Assessment: Colt’s 1911 served the United States military through two World Wars and several other conflicts, is still in use by some units today, and has become popular with law enforcement, competitors, and recreational shooters across the nation. The design has seen some updates including a firing-pin block safety, higher profile sights, and more ergonomic grips, but the basic design and fantastic trigger remain the same after more than a century. This example was produced in 1995 and looks like it hasn’t seen much use over the years. This pistol comes with one magazine to get you started.
