Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” and the right is marked “.44 MAGNUM”. The yoke cut is marked with the serial number and model number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks. The sideplate of the frame is marked with the monogram logo. The right side of the frame, below the cylinder, is marked with the four-line marcas registradas address. The rear of the cylinder is marked “V” and the ejector rod recess is marked “S”.

Barrel Length: 6”, with Full Underlug and Solid, Serrated Rib.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade, pinned to a serrated elevated base that is integral to the rib, which is serrated for glare reduction. The rear sight is an S&W flat top square notched leaf with a white outline, it is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation. The top strap is drilled and tapped under the rear sight base.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece textured black rubber Hogue Monogrip with finger grooves. There are some scattered scuffs. There are scattered light handling marks. The texturing is strong with minimal wear. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some scattered draglines. There are some scattered scuffs and light marks. There are some scattered little scuffs and rubs, a couple have caused smooth spots. There is a thin turn line on the cylinder. There are a couple of faint marks on the trigger guard. There is light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp to lightly used. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lockup produces very light side-to-side movement. The double-action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a Bianchi nylon holster.

Our Assessment: The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. This example is the 629-2 Classic Hunter with a 6? full underlug barrel, Hogue Monoogrip, unfluted cylinder, and a stainless finish. The .44 Magnum is a stout round and will be good protection against just about anything you’ll encounter in North America, no matter if it walks on four legs or two. The gun is in Excellent condition with a few scattered light marks, a great bore, and strong mechanics.
