Markings: The left side of the barrel shroud is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “.44 S&W SPL. CTG. / MAX BULLET 200 GRAIN”. The left of the frame has S&W’s monogram logo, the right has the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The sideplate has S&W’s scandium atom logo and “AirLite Ti”. The crane cut is marked “CDH5403 / 296”. The crane and the sides of the grip frame have inspection marks. The butt is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 2 1/2”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade pinned to a rise in the barrel shroud’s rib. The rear sight is a square notch in the topstrap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece checkered black rubber Uncle Mike’s Boot Grip which has finger grooves and leaves the butt and backstrap exposed. The grip has light handling wear with well-defined checkering and no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is a thin, faint turn-line on the cylinder and the trigger has very light operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action trigger is smooth. The cylinder produces almost no play on each chamber. The actual barrel is threaded into the shroud, the shroud housing is fitted to the frame with an alignment pin. We did not fire this gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is an interesting, very light (only 18.4 ounces!) 5-shot revolver in .44 Special. It is light enough for backpacking, hiking or any field use where weight is a consideration and would also make a great concealed carry revolver that won’t weigh you down despite having the power of a .44 Special. The revolver is in Excellent condition with very faint operational wear, strong mechanics and a great bore. As great a carry gun as this would make, with this revolver’s high condition and its short production period of three years, Smith & Wesson collectors may find this interesting, too.
