Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The yoke cut is marked “BBV6159 / MOD. 686-3”. The yoke is marked “414”. The left side of the grip frame is marked “A24 S / 8 / 14414”. The butt is marked “BBV6159”. The right side of the grip frame is marked “7867”. The right side of the frame is marked with the four line Marcas Registradas Address. The right side of the barrel is marked “S.&W. .357 MAGNUM”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a red insert serrated ramp. The rear sight is a white outline square notch adjustable for windage and elevation.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth walnut with S&W medallions on them. There are only light handling marks on these grips. There are no cracks or losses. The grips rate in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is Sharp. We have spent a considerable amount of time trying to clean this bore however, there are still a couple of spots of erosion/possibly fouling in the bore. There is also a shaded patch within which may be a slight bulge, this cannot be felt on the outside and can only be barely seen looking down the bore.

Our Assessment: All though it may look like a 586, This is actually a Smith & Wesson Factory Black Stainless 686. This is one of the full underlug Smith and Wesson 686’s. This is a great .357, an all around multi purpose gun, good for target use, competition, and field use. If nothing else, there aren’t many better looking guns.
