Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “Remington 11-87 SPORTSMAN” and is also marked with the serial number. The left side of the barrel is marked “12 GA.2 ¾” OR 3″”. The right side of the barrel is marked with proof and test marks and “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.”.

Choke: The installed choke measures Improved Modified.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a metal bead set on the rib. The rib is serrated for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered black polymer with a fluted straight comb, pistol grip, and finger groove forend. There are some compressions, draglines, and some little dings. There are some scuffs, rubs, and a few little scratches. The most noticeable defects are on the bottom of the forend at the rear. The checking is mainly strong with a few little marks. The LOP measures 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the textured rubber buttpad. The buttpad has some light wear. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright but there is some light surface erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are a couple little scuffs and rubs scattered over the matte finish. There are some light marks below the ejection port. There are a few little marks through the finish on the edges of the rib. There is light operational wear. There are light handling marks. The pins are unmarred. The markings are mostly strong and easily read. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This is a Remington 11-87 Sportsman in about Fine condition. The 11-87 built on their earlier Model 1100 with a 3″ chamber and this example also is threaded for removable chokes. This makes it a very versatile shotgun with a reliable operating mechanism. With some light wear, strong mechanics, this shotgun has a lifetime of service left in it. With a 28″ barrel and the installed Improved Modified choke, it could make a great trap or birding gun, but other chokes could always be installed for a number of purposes.
