The stock and sights are described below.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings.The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “UP arrow DOWN arrow / BATTLE triangle RANGE”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The left side of the stock is stamped with a faded Defense “Eagle” acceptance stamp above the trigger. The face of the grip is marked with a “circled P” proof. The bottom of the butt is marked with a number that does not match the serial number. The handguard is marked “101” in paint.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows scratches, thinning, and surface erosion. The stock is missing chips of wood at the top of the buttplate and the front of the trigger group. The stock shows numerous scrapes, scratches,and compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface wood. Most of the marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The grooves are grey and the rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent light erosion in the grooves. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 2.3. The throat shows a T.E. of 3.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish as refinished. The top rear of the receiver has surface erosion showing through the finish. This area also shows discoloration from oxidation. The receiver legs show some thinning. The bottom rear of the receiver shows thinning and discoloration from oxidation. The barrel & gas tube show scrapes, scratches, and thinning. The right side of the receiver and the bolt show some thinning consistent with cycling. The remaining metal shows light scrapes & handling marks. Most of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1944, so it was probably used in combat during WWII. It has since been rebuilt and refinshed. The rifle’s action uses all Springfield parts which are still marked clearly. Good luck.
