Markings: The left side of the receiver and barrel shank are each marked with 2 Austrian proofs and “245 g . 58”. The left side of the barrel is marked “BOHLER-SPEZIAL-STAHL” and “270”. The bottom metal has decorative metal work on it including a “stag”. The scope is marked “K. KAHLES / WIEN” and “HELIA 4 S1 / No34465”.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 1/2 Inches
Sights / Optics: The sights are set atop a full length rib. The front sight is a beaded blade atop a ramped base. The rear sight consists of a “U” notched blade. The top of the receiver has claw mounts dovetailed into it. The rear quick release claw mount has a release produrding from each side. The spring loaded release is pulled to the rear to lock and unlock it. The fixed 4 power scope has 2 integral mounts that mate with claw mounts. The scope uses a duplex reticle. The glass appears clear. The tube shows light handling marks. The scope is in Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The custom stock has a pistol grip with grip cap, fluted comb, raised cheek piece, sling loop under the butt, hand checkering on the grip & forearm and a checkered buttplate. The wood has a nice fiddleback pattern to it and the grip cap & buttplate are each made of horn. The wood shows scattered scrapes & handling marks. Most of the marks are small or light. The LOP measures 14 1/8 inches from the face of the front trigger and 13 3/8 inches from the face of the rear trigger, to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright and the rifling is deep. There is fouling in the grooves which should clean up some. There is light frosting in the grooves near the muzzle.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its current metal finish. The metal shows light handling marks. The trigger guard shows a small scratch. The bolt shows thinning consistent with cycling. The screw heads are intact. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a 4 power scope; see above.
The rifle comes in case. The green hard plastic Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) case is marked on both sides “CMP / www.theCMP.org” and with the CMP seal “stars / eagle holding arrows”. The interior of each case has foam pieces that show small compression marks. The case has 4 latches and 3 reinforced locking holes. The cases show scrapes, scratches and areas of light soiling. Overall the case is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
Our Assessment: This custom Austrian Mauser was made back in 1958. This is a Nice Mauser that was made with a double set trigger and is topped with a Kahles scope. The scope is in Fine condition. The receiver is topped with quick release claw mounts. The transitional barrel was made with a full length ribb. The wood has a nice fiddleback pattern to it and the stock’s grip cap & buttplate are each made of horn. The deep blue metal looks great set in the stock. The rifle uses a spoon bolt handle and a grip mounted safety. This is a nice custom rifle to add to your collection. It comes in a hard case to keep it safe. Good luck.
