Our Assessment: Stevens produced a variety of single-shot rifles, but the majority were little affordable lightweight boys rifles like the CrackShot or Favorite series. This is one of their full-size target rifles, the Ideal No. 44. Stevens was well known back in the early 1900s for the quality of single shot target rifles they produced and they were one of the main names alongside Ballard and Winchester. They had an extensive custom order catalog for those seriously into the sport and could configure rifles just about any way the customer wanted. This one is chambered for .25-20 Single Shot and has a 26″ half octagonal barrel. It has been professionally restored and the job is so well done it could honestly pass as original. The lockup is tight and the action functions well. This is a beautiful rifle and will absolutely make a great addition to your C&R or single-shot rifle collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
