Our Assessment: This is a Remington Model 600 chambered in .243 Winchester with an 18 ½” barrel and monte carlo wood stock. These were produced from 1964-1968 and less than 95,000 were made. From their compact size, manageable weight, and versatile chamberings, these were originally designed as guide guns. Due to the looks and the guns being a bit ahead of their time, they were despised by critics which ultimately lead to their downfall. Even though that was the case, nearly everyone who actually owned and shot one loved it! Furthermore, it received attention from Jeff Cooper who used it as the basis for his “scout” rifles, an endorsement we will take over no-name critics any day. This one has some wear, but it is nearly all cosmetic and to the eood, the mechanics are solid and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. This is a cool rifle in a popular caliber, so pick it up as a field gun or Remington collection place holder, I would sure love to. Please see our photos and good luck!
