Our Assessment: Looking like a 1911 pistol on steroids, the Coonan .357 is an impressive firearm by any metric. An elegant solution to a complex engineering problem, the Coonan allows use of rimmed .357 Magnum ammunition in a semi-automatic platform. Fans of the 1911 pistol platform will be right at home with the Coonan and the substantial weight will help tame the recoil of the .357 Magnum cartridge. Dan Coonan was forced to close his doors in 1998 and while he returned to the market in the late 2000s with the Coonan Classic model, the company has closed and Coonan pistols are no longer manufactured. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the earlier production guns and with it’s high condition, this one will hold as much appeal for the shooters as it will with collectors. Please see our photos and good luck!
