Markings: The top of the barrel jacket is marked “THE REMINGTON ARMS UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO., INC. REMINGTON ILION WORKS, ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. / BROWNING’S PATENTS OCT. 9, 1900 OCT. 16, 1900, JUNE 2, 1902, MAY 14, 1907, AND FEB. 14, 1911”. The right rear of the barrel, visible at the ejection port is marked “.35 REM.”. The bottom of the receiver is marked with inspection marks. The bottom of the base of the barrel jacket is marked with the serial number. The left side of the barrel jacket is marked with the date code “LY”, the right side is marked with an inspection mark. The left side of the receiver is marked “Remington / TRADE MARK / MODEL 8 / 62833”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a two-position Lyman flip-up sight, when flipped down it is a blade when flipped up it is a globe with a red beaded blade. The front sight is dovetailed into a base that is fixed to the barrel jacket. The rear sight is a “U” notched elevator sight screwed to the barrel jacket. The rear of the receiver is installed with a flip-up aperture peep sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a straight grip, straight comb, and serrated steel buttplate. There is a crack loss repair on the right side of the forend at the rear. There is a long crack on the left side of the buttstock that starts at the top tang. The stocks appear refinished. There are some scattered compressions, dings, and scuffs that have thinned the finish. There are a couple scratches and light scrapes. There are some areas of discoloration. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the serrated metal buttplate. The plate has some patina, spots of erosion, and a few scabs. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. There is some finish loss on the edges. There are some scattered little spots of oxidation, scuffs, and areas of thinning. The barrel jacket has some areas of erosion and light scabbing. There are some scattered nicks and light scratches, some of the most noticeable are on the barrel jacket. There are some areas that have taken on a faint patina. There is light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Remington Model 8 was the brainchild of John Moses Browning. Originally patented in 1900, it was the first successful high-powered semi-auto rifle made in the United States–or just about anywhere else, for that matter. It is a long-recoil operated rifle and feeds from a fixed magazine. The model 8 was chambered in four different Remington rimless cartridges, they were the .25, .30, .32, and .35 Remington. They were primarily used by hunters, though some law enforcement agencies adopted them and it was possible to modify them for removable magazines. It was even the preferred rifle of Texas Ranger Frank Hamer who used a customized .35 caliber model with 15-round magazines, and his was one of the two Model 8’s known to be at the ambush of Bonnie & Clyde. This example was made in 1930 based on its date code and is chambered in .35 Remington, it is in about Very Good condition with a great shootable bore and strong mechanics.
